PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF DECK CONCRETE is a one component lightweight insulating concrete ideal for roof fills and for providing slope.  It is adaptable to any roof configuration, and depending upon the condition of the existing roof, may be installed directly to build up roofs, gravel roofs and galvanized steel deck roofs, thus eliminating costly tear-offs.  It can provide a permanent, cost effective slope to drain design with high R values over flat and often irregular substrates found in re-roofing projects. It can be used to attach polystyrene board to the substrate and by sandwiching polystyrene board in LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF DECK CONCRETE and stair stepping the boards, a permanent slope to drain the roof can be created.

USES:

  • Ideal for roof fills
  • Provides necessary slope for drainage
ADVANTAGES:
  • Lightweight
  • Insulating
  • Adds fireproofing qualities
  • Preblended, just add water
INSTALLATION:

Surface Preparation:
A minimum 1 inch per 100 linear feet thick control
joint should be installed through the thickness of the LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF DECK CONCRETE around the perimeter of the roof deck and through the building expansion joints.  Control joints may be eliminated when substrate is galvanized steel deck.

Mixing:
Add clean water to a suitable clean container (pail, wheelbarrow, mixing box or mechanical mixer) at the rate of approximately 7-8 quarts of water for each 25 pound bag of material.  Mix to a lump-free, trowelable consistency suitable for the application.  Best results are generally achieved by adding : of the required mixing water, followed by all the dry material, then slowly adding the additional water until the proper consistency is achieved.

Placement:
Place mixed material with a steel trowel, applying pressure to ensure complete filling of all voided areas.  The use of EMPIRE BLENDED EM-BOND C is recommended as a bonding agent in applications where adhesion may be difficult.

Curing:
LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF DECK CONCRETE is self‑curing under most conditions.  However, moist curing is preferable.  Repaired areas exposed to high temperatures, direct sunlight or extremely windy conditions should be lightly misted with water or covered with damp burlap for 24 hours.  The built up roofing can be applied as soon as the LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF DECK CONCRETE can carry construction traffic, however we generally recommend permitting it to cure at least 3 days under normal conditions.

Coverage:
One 25 pound bag will cover approximately 3 square feet at 1 inch thick.

Packaging:
Available in 25 pound multiwall paper bags with moisture barrier.

Color:
Light gray

Products comparable to LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF DECK CONCRETE have been tested and approved by Underwriters' Laboratories, Factory Mutual and code authorities throughout the nation.  The system is rated as non-combustible by Factory Mutual which is a superior rating to their Class 1.  UL Design P920 successfully achieved the first 2 hour rating for any system of this kind under full scale fire conditions.  Systems over galvanized steel form units meet the criteria for UL Class 90 Wind Uplift Resistance as well as FM I-60 and I‑90.  Composite shear values over galvanized steel deck in excess of 1,500 PLF are achievable.

LIMITATIONS:

LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF DECK CONCRETE is not generally used for structural purposes.  When used as a floor fill, sand and fibers can be added to increase strength.  Do not apply to frozen surfaces or if temperature will fall below 40EF within 24 hours.
