PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

BROWN COAT STUCCO CONCENTRATE WITH FIBERS is a Portland Cement based, fiber reinforced one-step base coat for stucco. It serves as a single product for a traditional scratch and brown coat which can be applied directly over untreated concrete, block or brick walls or over galvanized metal lath. It allows for the addition of local sand making it economical to use.

USES:

  • Brown coat directly over untreated concrete, block or brick
  • Brown coat over galvanized metal lath
  • Leveling irregular surfaces
  • Interior or exterior

ADVANTAGES:

  • Crack and impact resistant
  • Weather and water resistant
  • Easy to mix and apply
  • Economical to use
INSTALLATION:

Surface Preparation:

Surfaces to be coated must be structurally sound, clean and free of dust, dirt, oils, paints and all other contaminants that will prevent proper bond.  Acid based cleaning solutions must be neutralized.  Spalled areas, broken mortar joints, or cracks larger than 1/16" should be repaired with EMPIRE BLENDED PATCH IT or EMPIRE BLENDED PATCH ALL. On solid, non‑absorptive substrates or where bond to the substrate cannot be obtained over the entire surface, galvanized metal lath must be attached. On wood frame construction, fasten a single layer of 15 lb. felt paper or suitable substitute (stucco wrap). Attach galvanized wire lath (preferably 3.4 self-furring) by nailing into the substrate with galvanized roofing nails spaced 8 inches on center. Lath should be overlapped at least 2 inches all around. Attach expanded corner bead at all corners and casing bead around all openings. The use of expansion bead is recommended and is determined by wall dimensions. If the walls are not lathed, it is still recommended that corner and expanded beads are used at appropriate locations. Dampen surfaces evenly before application and maintain dampness ahead of application.

Mixing:
Each 80 pound bag of BROWN COAT STUCCO CONCENTRATE WITH FIBERS requires approximately 6 ½ quarts of clean water and 180 pounds of clean mason sand. For applications over dense, smooth surfaces such as brick, precast concrete or stone, use 1 part EMPIRE BLENDED EM-CRYL 600 to 3 parts of clean water as the mixing water. Place the mixing water in a suitable mixer and gradually add the BROWN COAT STUCCO CONCENTRATE WITH FIBERS and sand. The use of a mechanical mixer is recommended.  Mix to a smooth, lump-free and trowelable consistency.  Turn the mixer off and allow the material to sit for 15 minutes, then remix for 5 more minutes.  Do not mix more material than can be placed in 30 minutes.  Wash out mixer periodically to keep the material from caking.

Placement:
Apply the first (scratch) coat of BROWN COAT STUCCO CONCENTRATE WITH FIBERS firmly over the lath to ensure that it is thoroughly bedded leaving no hollows beneath the lath. Horizontally scarify the surface to enhance mechanical bonding of subsequent coats. Allow to dry for 24 hours. Apply the second (brown) coat of BROWN COAT STUCCO CONCENTRATE WITH FIBERS over the evenly dampened first coat. Trowel or screed to plumb and level the walls allowing for the thickness of the finish stucco.

Curing:
The entire surface should be evenly moistened for 2 days following application to permit the complete hydration of the cementitious material.  If EM-CRYL 600 has been used as part of the mixing water, do not moist cure.  Instead, cover surface with plastic to help maintain a moist atmosphere to permit hydration.

Coverage:
Each 80 pound bag will cover approximately 155 square feet at 3@ thickness when mixed with 240 pounds of clean mason sand.

Packaging:
Available in 80 pound multiwall paper bags with moisture barrier.

Color:
Gray
