PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

GLASS BLOCK MORTAR is a high strength, precision blended mortar (ASTM C-270, Type‑M), designed specifically for current glass block masonry technology.  It is a blend of White Portland Cement (ASTM C-150, TYPE I), hydrated mason lime (ASTM C-207, Type S), integral waterproofing additives, modifiers and specially graded aggregates.  Although designed for glass block, this material can be used for any application requiring a high strength mortar, and when blended with EM‑CRYL 600 as a finish coat over concrete and masonry surfaces.

Surface Preparation: 
All surfaces must be clean, and free of loose dirt, debris, paints, oils or other contaminants that would inhibit bond.  Prepare glass block in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.  When used as a concrete finish, fill all cracks and holes with EMPIRE BLENDED PATCH ALL or EMPIRE BLENDED PATCH IT and allow to cure for 24 hours before applying finish coat.  Surfaces to be treated should be damp but free of standing water.

Mixing:       For Glass Masonry Applications 
In a suitable container, add dry material to clean water and mix to a stiff, lump-free consistency.  Glass masonry units have no absorption and require a stiffer than normal mix to support them.  Let mixed material sit for 5‑10 minutes, remix and apply.  Do not retemper.

Mixing:       For Concrete Finish Applications 
In a suitable mixer or container, add material to solution of EMPIRE BLENDED EM-CRYL 600 and water, mixed in the ratio of 1 part EM-CRYL 600 to 2 parts water.  Mix to a consistency suitable for troweling and allow to sit for 5-10 minutes.  Remix and steel trowel onto surface.

RAINBOW CEMENT COLOR may be added to achieve a colored joint or finish.  Add color at the rate of 1 pound per 50 pound bag and blend dry to a uniform color with no streaks.  Add liquid to material and mix to desired consistency.  Great care must be taken to ensure that all components (material, color and liquid) are consistently measured from batch to batch.

Placement:     For Glass Masonry Applications 
Install mortar with a brick trowel using a full bed of mortar on all joints with no furrowing.  Follow manufacturer's recommendations for installation details.  Joints should be tooled with a non-metallic jointer to avoid discoloration.  Clean with a damp sponge and water after mortar has set sufficiently so as not to be disturbed by pressure on the block or joints.  Finish cleaning with a dry rag or burlap to remove mortar residue.

Placement:     For Concrete Finish Applications 
One coat over poured concrete or cement plaster is usually sufficient.  However, over brick or concrete masonry, two coats is preferable.  Place with steel, non-staining trowel.  Material may be smooth finished with a steel trowel or textured with a sponge or rubber float.  Do not finish with wood floats as discoloration may occur.  Do not overtrowel.

Curing: 
GLASS BLOCK MORTAR is self-curing in mortar applications.  Normally, when used as a concrete finish, damp curing is not required except under hot, dry and windy conditions.  In this case, dampen surface uniformly with a fine water mist for 4-5 days.

Coverages: 
One 50 pound bag is sufficient to lay the following number of glass blocks:

6 x    6    Block............................ 36 Pieces
8 x    8    Block............................ 32 Pieces
12 x 12     Block............................ 18 Pieces

When used as a concrete finish coat, one 50 pound bag will cover approximately 50 square feet at c" thickness over concrete or smooth cement plaster.

Available in 50 pound multiwall paper bags with moisture barrier.

LIMITATIONS:

Do not apply when temperature is below 40EF or will fall below 40EF within 24 hours.  Do not use "antifreeze" or set accelerator solutions.

CAUTION:

Contains Portland Cement CAS #65997-15-1.  Freshly mixed cement products may cause skin injury.  Avoid contact with skin where possible and wash exposed areas promptly with water.  If any product gets into the eye, rinse immediately and repeatedly with water.  If ingested do not induce vomiting and get prompt medical attention.   Keep Out Of Reach Of Children.

WARRANTY:

Due to the use of this product beyond our control, we assume no liability for damages of any kind, and the user accepts the product "as is" and without warranties, expressed or implied, from either Empire Blended Products or its agents.  The suitability of the product for an intended use shall be solely up to the user.  Our only obligation shall be to replace or pay for any material proved defective, with our liability limited to the purchase price of materials supplied by us.
