PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
INSULATION BOARD COATING is a fiberglass reinforced, Portland Cement based protective coating for expanded polystyrene insulation board.  It not only beautifies the surface, but protects it from ultraviolet attack.  It can also be used to adhere the insulation board to the wall.  For convenience, it comes packaged as a complete kit, including the powdered mix, a roll of 3" mesh tape for reinforcing the board joints and easy to follow instructions, all in a convenient mixing pail.

USES:

▸   Attaching insulation board to foundation walls
▸   Decorative and protective coating for insulation board

ADVANTAGES:

▸   Packaged as a complete kit, including dry material, tape and instructions
▸   Can be troweled or brush applied
▸   Protects insulation board from impact damage
▸   Protects insulation board from ultraviolet damage
▸   Resists mildew and moisture
▸   Can be used to achieve a variety of textures and finishes

INSTALLATION:

Surface Preparation:
Foundation wall should be clean and free of dirt, asphalt, paint and form release oil.  If there is doubt a good bond can be achieved, mechanical fasteners should be used to attach insulation board.  Scratch both sides of insulation board with rasp, wire brush or sawblade, making sure the shiny skin on board is broken.  The foundation wall must be damp when the board is placed.  Do not allow the wall to dry out.

Mixing:
Add 2¼ to 2½ quarts of water to the powder in the pail.  Mix, using a small garden spade or drill with paddle mixer attachment.  Additional amounts of water can be added to achieve a mortar like consistency.  When using material for a brush on coating, use 2¾ to 3¾ quarts of water per 40 pounds of dry material.

Placement:
To attach the insulation board to the foundation wall, apply material to the back of the board in mounds at least ¼" thick and 2" in diameter, making sure that the material covers a minimum of 50% of the board.  An alternative method is to cover the entire back of the insulation board with INSULATION BOARD COATING using a ⅜" notched trowel.  Place insulation board on wall and push firmly.  Using a block of wood, apply equal and even
pressure, allowing maximum bond to be achieved.  Wait 24 hours after adhering insulation board to the wall before proceeding with the protective coating on the face of the insulation board.

After waiting 24 hours, tape all joints with the fiberglass mesh tape provided in the kit.  Cut the tape to a manageable length, allowing pieces to overlap each other by 2".  Apply a minimum of a 1/16" coat of INSULATION BOARD COATING and trowel in the mesh tape, using a stainless steel trowel.  Avoid trowel marks and ridges.  Be certain that no wrinkles or mesh tape are visible through the INSULATION BOARD COATING.  If mesh pattern is visible, skim the area with a light coat of INSULATION BOARD COATING.

Using a flat steel trowel, apply material to the entire face of the insulation board to a uniform thickness of 3/32" to ¼".  A variety of textures can be achieved.  A heavy nap paint roller works well and provides an attractive textured look to your finish.  After material has been applied to board, lightly roll the heavy nap paint roller over the coating.  Try not to stop in the middle of the wall to avoid lap marks.  If applying as a brush on coating, use a 6" masonry brush, applying material to entire face of the board to a uniform thickness of approximately 1/16".

Curing:
INSULATION BOARD COATING is self-curing.  Allow to cure for 24 hours before backfilling against it.

Coverage:

When used to adhere insulation board, 40 pounds will adhere 40-50 square feet of insulation board.  When used as a trowel applied coating, each 40 pound kit will cover approximately 40-50 square feet of surface and tape 20 feet of joints.  When used as a brush applied coating, each kit will cover approximately 80-100 square feet of surface and tape 20 feet of joints.

Each kit contains 40 pounds of dry material, 1 roll of 3" fiberglass reinforced tape and complete instructions, and is packaged in a 5 gallon plastic pail.
