PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
MICROTOPPING is a single component, multi-purpose cementitious topping designed to resurface structurally sound, non-moving interior or exterior concrete surfaces. MICROTOPPING is a blend of finely ground minerals, cement, and polymer, which allows for ultra-thin applications that can be troweled or lightly textured, colored and/or stained. When properly installed, it permanently bonds to concrete surfaces creating a durable, abrasion resistant surface. MICROTOPPING application thickness is 1/16 inch to a maximum of 3/16 inch.
USES:
- Ideal for restoring worn, distressed or color blemished concrete
- Resurfacing structurally sound, nonmoving interior concrete surfaces
- Correcting construction errors when a smooth hard trowel finish is desired.
- Ideal for when a integrally colored look is desired
ADVANTAGES:
- Extremely durable
- Easy to install
- Can be integrally colored or stained
- Abrasion resistant
- Ultra-thin applications
INSTALLATION:
Surface Preparation:
Remove all potential bond breakers such as grease, oil, paints, sealants, moss, dust, mastics and other contaminants on the surface. Do not use chemical strippers to prepare the surface. MICROTOPPING should be placed only on clean, sound, fully cured concrete. All cracks, holes, spalls, etc. should be filled and let fully cure prior to placement. Always pressure-wash, vacuum or sandblast the surface to remove excess dust and debris left over from other surface preparation or repair procedures. Once the surface has been prepared and cleaned, keep it clean through the duration of the project. The removal of all contamination is critical to the success of the project.
Mixing:
MICROTOPPING uses 9 quarts of water per 50 Lb. bag. Prior to mixing, material temperatures should be between 50 °F (10 °C) and 80 °F (26.7 °C). Measure and add the water to a clean mixing vessel before adding dry materials. When integral color is being used, slowly add the color to the MICROTOPPING dry powder. Using a good quality 600 rpm drill and paddle capable of mixing a mortar type mix, thoroughly mix the color and the dry powder. Slowly add the dry mixture to the water and continue mixing for a minimum of 3 minutes, until uniformly blended and lump free. Do not mix more material than can be correctly applied within 60 minutes at 70 °F (21 °C). Pot life for mixed material is between 1-3 hours depending on ambient temperature. Keep the mixing pail and mixer free of material build up. Change or clean the mixing pail frequently to avoid pouring hardened lumps onto the substrate.
Application:
Temperature should be between 50 °F (10 °C) and 80 °F (26.7 °C) before mixing and placing material. Do not use in extreme temperatures or windy conditions. Once material is thoroughly mixed, immediately pour MICROTOPPING from the mixing pail onto the concrete surface. A trowel, gauge rake, gauge roller, or squeegee can be used for the distribution of the product. Be sure to keep tools free of build up by cleaning them frequently with water. Maximum thickness for MICROTOPPING is 3/16 inch, if a greater thickness is desire and/or required, MICROTOPPING may be applied in lifts. When using lifts, allow the material to dry for a minimum of 6-8 hours after placement.
Curing:
MICROTOPPING is self-curing. Curing times will vary depending on ambient temperatures. The surface can be gently walked on approximately 6 hours after placement at 70 °F (21 °C). Cure for a minimum of 72 hours before opening the surface to light traffic and allow a full 28 day cure before heavy traffic.
Coverage:
One 50 pound bag will cover approximately 100 square feet at 1/16" thickness.
Packaging:
Available in 50 pound bags.
Color:
Gray.
TECHNICAL DATA:
Compressive Strength (ASTM C-109)
28 days………………………..…….5,800 psi
LIMITATIONS:
Do not apply MICROTOPPING if air and surface temperatures are not between 50EF (10 EC) and 85 F (30 EC) or if temperatures are subject to fall out of this range within 72 hours of application. MICROTOPPING should not be installed in areas subject to steel wheel traffic, strong chemicals, periodic water immersion, or hydrostatic pressure. Random cracks in the existing concrete may transfer through the cured overlay even if they are repaired prior to application. Applications of MICROTOPPING greater than 3/16 inch are not recommended.
CAUTION:
Contains Portland Cement CAS #65997-15‑1. Freshly mixed cement products may cause skin injury. Avoid contact with skin where possible and wash exposed areas promptly with water. If any product gets into the eye, rinse immediately and repeatedly with water. If ingested, do not induce vomiting and get prompt medical attention. Also contains Sand CAS #14808-60-7. Avoid breathing dust. Prolonged exposure to dust may cause delayed lung injury (silicosis) or cancer IARC Class 2A. Wear NIOSH approved mask for silica dust. Keep Out Of Reach Of Children.
